Why are you right for the job?
The next stage of the cover letter is all about you. It’s time to sell yourself. Explain to them all about your relevant skills and experience. Match them both to the requirements of the job; don’t forget to include relevant personal skills that you think may be applicable.
You need to be able to tick all of the graduate recruiter’s boxes by making it clear to them that you can add value to their company. You need to come across as enthusiastic and positive, and definitely not arrogant.
Using LinkedIn to job search
LinkedIn is a seriously powerful tool in your job search. LinkedIn actually enables you to connect directly with hiring managers of companies. These internal recruiters also search LinkedIn for potential candidates too.
You need to make sure that your profile is completely accurate before you start approaching people, so take some time when you are completing it. It’s a good idea to put the link to your LinkedIn profile on your CV so when you apply for jobs they can check you out on there.
How to apply for a vacancy
Only apply for vacancies’ that you have the skills and experience to do; don’t apply thinking ‘I can do that’ because although you probably could if you don’t have the specific skills and experience and someone else does you are setting yourself up for disappointment.
Instead apply for everything you’re skilled or experienced in and half the battle is won.
INTERVIEWS
Attending an Interview
It’s important to know your CV inside out, you will be asked about various different points which you will need to explain in detail and perhaps give an example (which is known as a competency based interview). When you meet the interviewee offer a firm handshake, looking them directly in the eye. Follow this process when the interview concludes.
Questions that they may ask you during the interview are:
• What are your weaknesses?
• What can you bring to the company in terms of skills?
• Why should we employ you (over the other 4 recently graduated candidates that we have interviewed?)
• Why do you want to work for [company name]?
• Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?

How to progress your career
You’ve done a great job having gained yourself employment no matter what level that is so embrace it with all your might and make yourself and everyone else proud.
